Vehicle theft from driveways has risen steadily across the West Midlands over the past five years. Keyless entry attacks, signal relay, and opportunistic theft of caravans, motorhomes and trade vans are all up. A properly installed driveway security post is the single most visible and effective deterrent: most thefts are looking for an easy target, and a heavy steel post locked into a concrete socket immediately stops a vehicle being driven away.

We install telescopic, fold-down and fixed security posts on block paving, tarmac, resin and concrete driveways across Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield and Birmingham. After a theft, we offer a 48-hour emergency turnaround on most postcodes so the second attempt cannot succeed.

Types of security post we install

Telescopic security posts

A telescopic post sits in a concrete-set steel socket and rises 600-1000 mm above the surface when in use. Lock it with the supplied key and the post is rigid. Unlock and push down for a flush surface. This is the most popular option for daily-use driveways - the post is hidden when not needed and immediately deployable.

Fixed security posts

A fixed post is permanently above ground level and locked into a concrete-set base. Use cases: trade premises, caravan storage, motorhome storage, situations where vehicles do not need to come and go.

Fold-down security posts

A fold-down post lays flat against the driveway when not in use, locked into a steel socket, and lifts vertically when needed. The lock holds it upright. This is a middle-ground option for driveways where the flush-surface telescopic option is hard to drain.

How we install a security post

  1. On-site quote. Gary inspects the driveway, identifies the right location for the post, confirms there are no buried services, and recommends the post type.
  2. Core drill through the driveway surface to expose the sub-base.
  3. Excavation of the post pocket - typically 450 mm cube into the sub-base.
  4. Steel socket positioned plumb.
  5. Concrete backfill with rapid-set concrete where the customer needs the driveway back in use quickly.
  6. Surface reinstatement of the surrounding driveway material - matching block, tarmac patch or resin patch as appropriate.
  7. Key handover with two keys per post as standard, and post operation demonstrated to the owner.

What it costs

Pricing depends on the post type, the number of posts, the driveway surface and access. As a guide:

  • A single telescopic post installed in block paving starts at around £550.
  • A pair of telescopic posts for a wider driveway entrance is typically £950-£1,400.
  • Emergency 48-hour fitting carries a small surcharge.

Emergency fitting after a vehicle theft

If your vehicle has been stolen from the driveway, the highest-risk window for a follow-up attempt is the first two to four weeks. We aim to fit a security post within 48 hours of being called, on most local postcodes (B72, B73, B74, B75, B76, WS13, WS14, B23, B24, B27).

Frequently asked questions

Will the post stop a determined thief? No physical barrier is theft-proof. A heavy steel post locked into concrete moves the cost of attack from minutes-with-a-laptop to many minutes with power tools and noise, which is enough to deter the vast majority of opportunistic and signal-relay attacks.

Can the post be cut? With a power tool, given enough time, yes. The posts we install are rated for the level of attack typical for residential driveways. We can recommend higher-rated security posts for trade vehicles or high-value cars if needed.

Will it affect my driveway warranty? No - we install the post as part of the driveway works using the same standards. Where another contractor laid the driveway, we core through and patch the surface to a matching finish.

Can the surrounding block paving be re-used after the core drill? Yes, in almost every case. Block paving is designed to be repairable.

Do you offer a guarantee? Yes - a 10-year written guarantee on the installation. The post itself carries the manufacturer’s warranty.
